About the Position

The Director of Finance reports to the Vice President, Finance & Technology Solutions, and will lead all financial operations and planning that support the social impact work of the organization.

This is a full-time benefits-eligible role with a hybrid schedule of three days a week at the Philadelphia office (located in University City), and two days virtual, with occasional schedule adjustments for after-hours events.

Roles and Responsibilities

Financial Leadership

  • Thought Partner: in collaboration with the Vice President, Finance & Technology Solutions, set the strategic direction for the financial function and empower strategic thinking in the organization
  • Partnership & Relationship Management: initiate, build, and maintain relationships crucial to the success of financial operations and build connections with internal staff to understand the functions of the organization
  • People & Culture: intentionally develop the people and culture of your team in alignment with organizational values
  • Supervision: provide high quality supervision to direct reports and, if applicable, oversee supervision of indirect reports

Financial Administration

  • Financial Planning & Analysis: lead all financial planning and analysis, and reporting
  • Financial Reporting: provide and guide senior leadership team with accurate, comprehensive data andanalysis to drive decision making and planning and surface potential challenges
  • System Integration: serve as the project lead for integration and standardization of the organization’sfinancial systems
  • Fiscal Oversight: ensure accounting procedures and operational efficiencies comply by staying abreast ofGAAP and regulatory requirements, industry trends, and technology
  • Policy/Procedure: lead and direct a process to establish, improve, and document financial policies andprocedures
  • Budgeting: lead the organization’s budgeting process and conduct forecasting for future, according toStrategic Plan
  • Accounting Functions: oversee accounting and financial activities
  • Financial Controls: design, implement and monitor financial controls
  • Compliance: provide all compliance information required by banking institutions and external entities

Organizational Impact & Collaboration

  • Contracts & Partner Payments: oversee the implementation of contracts for vendors, consultants and affiliated organizations, as well as payment of grants, investments, and other partner initiatives
  • Values Based Investments: collaborate with the investment and finance teams to support the investment portfolio, including developing and reviewing reporting, and portfolio servicing
  • Business Partner: serve as resource and advisor to management regarding budgets and financial analysisincluding communications, selective meeting representation, and educating management regardingfinancial documents

  • Organizational Involvement: participate as an engaged member of the organization beyond core responsibilities including, but not limited to, participating in training/professional development, attending staff meetings/events, and contributing to the organization’s values-based culture building including diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) work
  • Professional Development: maintain skills and knowledge of industry standards, peer activity, and relevant media/publications and advise on key developments or areas that could impact the organization

Candidate Qualifications

We look forward to the range of professional experiences that candidates provide, and that, at minimum, meet these qualifications: 

  • Professional Experience: demonstrate 7-10 years of financial leadership experience
  • Technology: ability to integrate technology into work, expert level in Excel and proficient in the rest of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint)
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required

  • Flexibility & Availability: ability to quickly pivot and thrive in a fluid environment, ability to navigate ambiguity, with flexibility in scheduling for periodic night or weekend events, as well as occasional overnight travel
  • Confidentiality: ability to handle confidential information with discretion
  • Education: Master’s degree or CPA preferred
